UK Student Visa

The UK has always been and continues to be, one of the most sought after destinations for higher studies for students from across the world including India. The UK’s education system is well structured and offers students an opportunity to choose from more than 50,000 courses from over 150 recognized universities. Students have an option to combine courses or opt for courses in a manner that best suits their needs and backgrounds.

The universities & colleges in UK offer short, diverse and specialized courses ranging from full-time, three-year bachelor’s degrees to one-year master’s degrees, four-year integrated degrees, and doctorate degrees.

Student Visa Types

There are two UK student Visa categories

  • Tier 4 (General) Student Visa – This visa category is for students wish to come to the UK for higher education. The applicant must be at least 16 years old to apply under this visa category.
  • Tier 4 (Child) Student Visa – This visa category aims for children between 4 and 15 years of age coming to the UK for their education.

Tier 4 (General) Student Visa

The most common visa for international students wishing to study in UK is the Tier 4 Student Visa – a points-based system. As a Tier 4 (General) student, applicant must have 40 points to qualify, which can be achieved by:

  • Course Confirmation: Applicants can obtain 30 points for having a valid confirmation of acceptance for studies, which they can get for studying a course at an acceptable level with an approved education provider (also known as a ‘Tier 4 sponsor’), and for having acceptable English language skills.
  • Funding: Applicants can get 10 points by providing evidence of funding to pay for both their course tuition fees and monthly living costs.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

  • For Undergraduate, IELTS 6.0 band overall with 5.5 band in each module
  • For Bachelor’s & Master’s, IELTS 6.5 band overall with 5.5 band in each module
  • IELTS waiver: Minimum 10+2 passed in English medium with First Division + 65% above in English subject.

Tuition Fees

The average tuition fees for studying at a college & universities in UK ranges from around £3,000 to £9,000 per year. The tuition fee varies for the course and institute that one wishes to study at.
