Latest Express Entry Draw issued 3900 invitations to candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence
CRS cut off score rises to 475 in October 30 invitation round
In the latest invitation round through Canada’s Express Entry system, a total of 3900 candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores of 475 or higher received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for Canadian permanent residence.
The October 30th draw brings the total number of invitations issued by Government of Canada to Express Entry candidates so far this year to 71,700. However, this number puts the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) 2,500 behind last year’s pace- a year that issued a record 89,800 ITAs.
Canada’s high admissions targets for the three immigration programs managed by Express Entry system are set at 81,400 for 2019 and 85,800 for 2020, which means it could still surpass this record by the end of the year.
IRCC applied a tie break rule in the October 30 draw; and the time stamp used was August 29, 2019, at 03:50:24 UTC. This means that all candidates with CRS scores above 475 as well as those with a CRS score of 475, who entered their profile in the Express Entry pool before this date and time received an ITA in this draw.
Why is the CRS score cut-off threshold so high?
In the October 30 invitation round the CRS score cut-off has increased to 475, which is the highest cut-off in nearly three years, since a draw in December, 2016, when the cut-off was also 475.
The main reason for the increase is the fact that a full 28 days passed between all-program draws. The most recent draw that took place on October 16 was restricted exclusively to Federal Skilled Trades candidates and issued only 500 invitations.
As more time elapses between draws, the Express Entry pool has additional time to replenish with higher-scoring candidates, which can put a direct impact on the cut-off score.
Express Entry candidates with low CRS scores can increase their points through a variety of options and the most valuable of which is to obtain a provincial nomination.
A provincial nomination awards an additional 600 points to candidates towards their CRS scores and effectively guarantees them an ITA for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry draw.
The candidates, who received invitations in the October 30 draw, now have to submit their complete application for Canadian permanent residence within 60 days to IRCC.
